Braam van der Walt

I’m a BTEC Level 5 qualified Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist, and I help people reduce pain, move more comfortably and return to the activities they enjoy.

I understand how frustrating it can be when pain or injury stops you from doing the things that matter to you. As a keen runner and outdoor enthusiast, I’ve experienced first-hand the impact that discomfort can have on training, confidence and everyday life.

My approach is about more than simply massaging the area that hurts. I take time to listen to your concerns and understand your symptoms, injury history, daily habits and the physical demands of your work, sport or lifestyle. This helps me build a fuller picture of what may be contributing to your problem and how best to support you.

Each treatment is tailored to you and may include sports or deep-tissue massage, soft-tissue release, trigger-point therapy, assisted stretching and muscle-energy techniques. Where appropriate, I will also give you a manageable programme of mobility, strengthening or balance exercises to help you continue making progress between appointments.

I work with a wide range of people—from runners, walkers, cyclists and gym-goers to those experiencing pain or stiffness through work, posture or the general demands of everyday life. I commonly help clients with back, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, persistent muscular tension and pain affecting the hips, knees, lower legs and feet. A list of complaints I treat weekly are Sciatica, SIJ pain, ITB syndrome, Achilles tendonitis, Plantar Fasciitis, Patella Femoral pain, Frozen Shoulder, Hip Impingement, Head Ache, Golfer’s and Tennis Elbow to name but a few.

Alongside my clinical experience, I have spent many years fitting hiking and trail-running footwear. This has developed my particular interest in gait, foot mechanics and the relationship between footwear, movement and recurring injuries. I’m also a brand ambassador for Vivo Barefoot and evangelical about the benefits that using the foot as nature intended brings.

My aim is to help you understand what may be contributing to your pain—not just provide temporary relief. Together, we can develop a realistic treatment and recovery plan that helps you move forward with greater comfort and confidence.

Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing a long-standing problem, preparing for an event or simply want to feel and move better, you are very welcome to book an appointment with me at The Clifton Practice.
